I assume the high altitude parachute drop represents the incoming target rocket which the THADD was programmed to hit. Again I presume at some point it was released to fall at terminal velosity for the defense rocket to take out.
Often the target rocket is launched towards Kawj from Andrews but since this was supposed to be a medium and/or short range test I suppose that would not have been possible.
