I was at the Virginia military Museum in Nokesville VA yesterday
they brought out their M50 Sherman they just finished restoring
After they ran it i was looking at it one of the things that stood out was notches in the lower hull edges where the inner wheels are
is that a mod on all easy 8 Sherman or just on Israeli Shermans

They provided clearance to allow removal of the inside bogie wheels.

Tanks built with HVSS came with the notches factory-made, but IIRC tanks upgraded from VVSS to HVSS (like in the postwar period) had to have these notches cut/ground into them. I assume corresponding metal was added inside?

No. The notches were small and were right at the corner where the hull sides overlap the floor plate. It's not a vulnerable spot (and covered by two bogie wheels and a suspension arm) so I doubt there was any perceived additional risk. It wasn't like the hogging out of metal inside the right front of the turret.
