Hello, can somebody tell me what model Sherman this is:


The picture is dated September 6, 1944, and was taken in Italy. Also what brands make that specific model in 1/35?

M4A3?

Sharper view. The tank belongs to the New Zealand 20th Armoured Regiment. According to the caption I've found here, this picture was taken in Florence on 4 August 1944, the day the city was liberated by the Allies during the Italian Campaign. :

I guess in both cases, the pictured tank is a M4A2, a.k.a. Sherman III.

As Frenchy says, most likely an M4A2. Dragon makes a Sherman III, kit 6313, and Asuka makes one, kit 35018. I have both, and I think the Asuka kit is bit better. Both can be made into a decent Italian version.

If this tank is the M4A2, unfortunately there is no Tasca / Asuka model with cast turrets for the driver and helper ...
So the (unfortunately) dragon model remains

Please be aware that Tasca/Asuka sell individual sprues on their web-site (depending on what they are currently producing) so it is possible to mix-and-match to get the wanted parts.

An interesting story he relates is the 'Tiger drill' the kiwis devised to handle Tigers & Panthers, using the heavier than air smoke from American smoke shells, to drive the crew from their vehicle.

The cast antenna mount with the wide base is characteristic of Pullman Standard M4 and M4A2 Shermans (the M4A4 had a similar one, but also had distinctive notches at the base of the drivers' hoods and three piece transmission cover, not seen here, and the M4A3 was not exported to Commonwealth users). Without seeing the engine deck or tail plate, it cannot be determined which type this is, though the UK received many more M4A2 than M4 Shermans.
Asuka makes these variants.Their M4 "Fay" kit or their M4A2 "Romilly" kit would come closest. Not sure if the tank shown had an early or mid production turret (given the lack of factory applique armor on the hull, it's probably an early turret with pistol port), so you may have to buy the early turret shell separately, if you want that version. EDIT Asuka's Sherman III with Cast Drivers' Hoods includes the early turret, so no additional purchase is necessary, unless you want different tracks.

The Second pic Frenchy Posted is definitely a Sherman V. 3 piece transmission and undercuts in the driver/co-driver hoods.

That is possible, however there were M4A2's with the 3 part trans and not DV, as well as tanks with the cast nose and DV. The cast nose being more common over-all.

sorry if I'm hijakcking thread but I've just bought dragon Sherman Mk iii (6313) and I was wondering is the difference between that and a 'Normanady Mk iii' the stowage bin?

Kit 6313 does not have the "Normandy" bin. It has added parts for the desert version. It's a good base for a Mediterranean M4A2.
