Does anyone know of a good dull or matt coat finnishing paint? I'm currently using Testors and am not too happy with it's "dullness". It seems like a satin finish. Maybe I need more than one coat?

Try Model Master Acryl's Clear Flat. I havn't had any trouble with that. I also heard Tamiya's clear flat is good too.

It could be that you're putting on too wet a coat. I notice that if I don't mist it on properly, then I too get a satin coat. Lighter coats tend to keep it more "flat".

Rob, I just tried that this evening (lighter, mist coats) with better results. Thanks.
I also couldn't help but notice that you've lost some rank, gained some with the post numbers, but WOW. I've never seen anyone get busted like that!:-)
Thanks for all your help and Happy New Year!

Ken,
LOL!! It took me a second to catch on. Rob will have quite a few posts to go before he gets back to Major. hehe
I am just hoping I can keep up with his rank here. Kind of sad if the Webmaster is outranked by his site users.

Haven't you seen that episode of M*A*S*H when they sneak Radar into the O-Club as a CorporalCaptain? Well, I'm the next rank above, Corporal Major (comes just below a Sergeant Major).

I like to use the Model Masters dull coat. Although I haven't used the testors brand. I may have to go get some just to see if there is any difference. "Corporal Captain"? That's good. I like that. When I was in the infantry, we had a E-6 whose last name was major. So evertime he answered the phone, he would say "Sergeant Major speaking", everyone thought they were talking to the battalion SGM. That always got a good laugh in the S-3 shop. Thanks. Chris (Tiger 1) Carney.

Hi
I use the Tamiya Clear coats (both gloss and flat) and I never got trouble using them, and I proceed the same way as to paintings.
HTH
Cheers!

Aside from using Testors Dullcote, I also have had excellent results with Polly-Scale's Clear Flat.

I have only seen Testors DullCote is a spray can. Do you (more experienced than me!) modellers use these bombs, or is it also available for use in an airbrush?

Yes it does. It comes in a 1 3/4 fluid ounce container #1160, the gloss coat does too(#1161). The container is the size of the thinner bottle with a purplish pink label.

Hello,
I have found three things about spraying Testors DullCote from the can:
1) set the can in hot water to the rim for several minutes prior to spraying
2) Shake very well just prior to spraying
3) Mist coats
Try to minimize the amount of coats also as Testors DullCote will tend to 'yellow' as it gets thicker on the model-This is particularly applicable on light colored paints such as white winter camo.
Thanks,

CR,
Thanks for the tips. And welcome to the site!
Having just returned from IPMS Richmond I saw many nice paint jobs. I need to brush...er no...improve my spray and airbrush skills.
