Basically I'm just wanting to open the hatches on a M109. I know black dog makes a A6 interior. How much difference is there? I'm just starting to gather research material on it. From what I can find there are not a lot of books out there on this spg.

Well, there is my HUGE walkaround of it, showing not only interior, but outer turret compartments opened to see what's inside, and open engine/transmission hatch showing those components as well.

Having said that, off the top of my head the main difference I can remember in the hull is the old school woven strap seats being replaced, and a bit of a different hull projo arrangement.

I may peruse my photos in a bit to see that else.

By the way, the Black Dog floor has an incorrect plate arrangement, although it's close enough.

The Black Dog set is an M109A2 interior. The lower hull is basically the same on an M109. The major difference is in the turret interior. For a straight M109, the Black Dog interior is really close. The biggest changes are the ammo storage on the rear. It is all internal on the M109 with a triangular stack on the left rear inside. The M109 also had a different style rammer that was attached to the turret ring, not the breech of the gun as on the A2.

There is a great build article in the the AMPS Boresight Magazine from Jan/Feb '15 that shows exactly how to do it.

There are a few more noticeable differences in the hull than what I mentioned above. As I said, the webbed seats are gone, replaced with eight projo stowage capacity on each side. There's a oddment box to the right rear, stowage compartments on the left side of the hull, and another oddment box right on the floor behind the driver. Also there's what appears to be an A/C box with vent above and to the left of that oddment box.

As for any version of the hull, you'd come out better detailed and spend less money if you did one yourself as I have done more times than I care to remember. Enough to diminish my desire to do full interiors of any vehicle ever again. (Unless I get paid ridiculous money.)



For my own models, the juice is no longer worth the squeeze. I'm not one of those guys who says, "But I know it's there" about stuff you can't even see.

Rob, I think he has a straight M109 and wants to add an interior to it using the Black Dog M109A2 interior set as a starting point. I don't think he is looking to build an interior for an M109A6 Paladin.

Unfortunately this album is incorrectly labeled - the howitzer in pictures is not A1, as it has extended turret with additional ammo storage space at the rear and the rammer is attached to the breech, not to the turret ring, as it was in A1. That is either A2, A3 or possibly even A5.
