I have some floquil "dust" railroad colors paint that I want to airbrush with but it says to use floquil thinner for this. My question is can I use the regular model masters airbrush thinner with this paint? If not is there an alternative? Thanks for any comments in advance Cheers Kevin

I use Floquil RR colors all the time, especially Grimy Black and Rail Brown. I have always used Testors (ModelMaster) airbrush thinner, with no ill effect. I do tend to use a lot less than with normal MM enamel paint, as the Floquil stuff is usually pretty thin already.

The only time I used generic paint thinner with my airbrush paints, I had a very bad experience. So, while I use it for cleaning my Aztec tips, brushes, paint cups, etc., when it comes to actually thinning paints, I stick with Testors thinner.
I’m sure some here will say they use generic thinner and have had no problems, but I’m once bitten and superstitious now. I’ll stick with the Testors.

P.S. Having said all that, I do have a friend who uses Lacquer Thinner with his enamel paints, and swears by it. To each his own, I guess.
