Hi all

Does anyone have a clear picture of where the winch cable extends when it is being operated? I have read the TM but it just says that the cable run on sheavers on the underside of the cargo body. And is pulled out fron the roller under the tool box at the rear of the vehicle. But the toolbox is not on the side?.
I want to represent the truck pulling some other vehicle. Some help?.

The tool box you're talking about is located between the tail lights

Most likely the winch wouldn't be strong enough to pull most vehicles.
It was used to pull trailers and artillery pieces closer to the back end to hook them up.

On a subject that is closely related - well it's relatively close anyway (physically) - to what we are looking at here in this thread -
that tool drawer:

This is a detail that while present on every CCKW, White, Dia. T and Mack model truck ever offered it is never actually modeled. - that tool drawer.

And here again, as seen below, another shot of that tool drawer on a derelict CCKW. Unfortunately I have never seen an image of this drawer in the open position - Frenchy ??????

I have always suspected that between rust and the slight warpage of the load box body these tool drawers quickly became unusable.

It just seems like there would be in a TM somewhere, a photo of one of these in the open position.

What I do know is that while the drawer front is always modeled the under body toolbox itself almost never is.

Would there have been a drawer in there? Given the shape (deep and flat), it seems like getting at anything you put in there would be a real pain, especially after stopping the vehicle and everything slides to the front.

The way the locking hasp drops downward it is either a drawer or a horizontal hinged door that opens upward. (Hinged across the top.)

Have never really been sure, which is why I was asking if anyone had a TM photo of it open.

According to the G503 website the TM indicates that the starting crank is stored in this compartment. Which for the Deuce with winch can be quite long.

Also it appears to be a door, hinged along the top of the opening rather than a drawer.
