Was on HobbySearch to see what was new and saw that AFV Club was coming out with a Centurion Mk.I and a Magach 6B Gal for mid-February release.

I'm assuming this is the same Centurion Mk.1 kit they did under the Girls and Panzer label for Pflatz earlier this year. very nicely molded kit with the shortcoming that they used their existing short hull molds instead of the actual long hull engine deck which would be accurate for the Mk.1.

Looking at image nr 3 on this web-page I get the impression that it is the rear part of the engine deck for the long hull version:

I could be wrong though ...

Hi all,
I've just purchased and started a build log in here for the new AFV Club Centurion MK. III, Korean War kit and it has a surplus sprue in it.
The sprue is referenced 'Q', but not shown on the kits Parts List.
I wrote that I believed that sprue 'Q' (see image below) is for an entirely different model based on a) it not being referenced in the Parts List,...
...and b) the following observations (see image below). One of the parts on the sprue looks as if it might be a representation of a 20mm Polsten Cannon, the other part looks like a BESA machine gun.
Based on the above I said that I suspected that AFV Club might be intending to release either a Prototype A41 and/or possibly a MK. I variant.
I did go on to say that I'm no expert on the Centurion, so could be wrong, but your post suggests I might have been right...for a change, .
Cheers, ,
G

Hi Matt,
Not sure how it found its way in to my Centurion MK. III box...but some fodder for my spares box, though I'm not sure what use they'll be, !?

Even though the Q sprue is not referenced in the sprue layout in the instructions, there are a number of parts used in the Korean War Mk.3 build.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for the heads-up on that, . I had a quick scan and it would appear that I will indeed need sprue Q for what appears to be a grand total of about six parts as I'm building an 'Early' version.
Had I been building a 'Late' version it would appear that I wouldn't have needed sprue Q at all.
Thanks again for the information.

A MK 1 sounds very good. I have built the MK5 Australian kit and I really enjoyed it. Does anyone know if the MK1 saw usage during WW2. I will buy this kit anyway but I am curios about any WW2 usage.

Hi Dale,
I read somewhere that the first six were deployed to Europe for operational trials with the 5th Royal Iniskilling Dragoon Guards and the 5th Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) as part of an exercise codenamed Operation Sentry, but hostilities ceased before they could be tested in combat against German armour.
How accurate that is I'm not sure, I'm no expert, .

I seem recall they were in the middle of the Atlantic when the war in Europe ended.
