What is the purpose of the grate over the right tail light on new M1A2 SEP tanks?

I'm fairly sure it there as a protection for a drivers reversing camera that's in the light unit in the SEP V2's

On the latest M1A2 SEP v2, there is a rear view camera there as part of the light. The grate protects the lens.
