Hello!
AS the title suggests, I'm trying to figure out the accurate color of the turret SS Panzer Regiment 12 in Normandy. Red or Black? I have reference materialand pics online that show both and it's confusing me.
SS Panzer Regiment 12 had 2 battalions. The first battalion had 4 kompanies of Panther A late's and early G's. The second battalion had 4 kompanies of Pz.kpfw.IV Ausf H mid's and late's.
For this project, I'm focusing on 1st Battalion's 3rd Kompanie of Panther A's in a diorama of the assault on Norrey-en-Bessin.
Some of my references show red numbers with white outline and some show black with white outline. Red or Black? What does everyone think?
Also, anything you guys think I should know about this unit or these Panthers I would be very happy to hear it. I appreciate any info or suggestions.
Red
Black

Red.
Definitely Red.
That splash of color has "sexy" written all over it.

The numbers were black with a white outline,
The Echelon decals are well researched, and the official guidelines called for black.
I'd chose them over the Star decals, as they form better over zimmerit. (Use Tamiya Mark fitter.)

There's a very detailed official document dated 4 January 1944 with allocation and guidelines for SS-Pz.Rgt.12 tanks (Stab, I. & II. Abteilung).
About Taktische Nummern it says :
Farbe (colour) : schwarz (black).
The recommended height and width are also given :
Höhe (height) : 35 cm - Breite (width) : 22 cm
etc

A very informative discussion , would the colour be black also for the panzer 4s?. I have a Dragon 4 H with zimmerit that I would like to build as a HJ Normandy vehicle. Again, a great subject to discuss.
