I thought I posted this a few days ago but must have done something wrong.
I saw this photo on another site. Looks like a very early M4A1 (with M-3 suspension) with add on armor, sand bag racks and a rebuilt turret with the commander's cupola. I seem to remember that there were issues with the M3 suspension not holding up with the Sherman's weight. I would have thought that by 45 any old hulls like that (that hadn't been destroyed) would have had the suspesion upgraded when all the other changes were done.

If it ain't broke why fix it?
Probably came from a unit that originally started in italy-these units didn't have the Same mandatory upgrades the vehicles based in England had.

Hi, Robin. Yeah, that was me. I wasn't getting any notices of replies. And when I looked onthe forum I did not see it. Figured I'd goofed something.
