I have only tried pancils for making scratches in armored vehicles, and I discovered that sealing with a brush is nearly impossible. In think spray cans will work ok if you spray a thin coat very carefully to make sure the lead stays on. You should try the spray can with a piece of waste plastic just to try it out so you won't ruin you're precious model.
