I remember the Tamiya kit which the tracks did not have enough of the track pads and road wheels that were not well detailed. Lots of problems, more toys than models. It came out when most of the Tamiya models were equipped with spaces for motors, etc, but of course there was not any of this included.
In 2004 I got one of the really poor SdKfz 8 antiaircraft half tracks and excuse me if that should be 7 instead of 8. I spent months on that kit alone, mostly doing research into the tarp that was folded for rear stowage that was missing from kit, and had a lot of help over at Missing Lynx including where to find great looking front tires. I had to scribe where the front chassis was made into 3 parts, plus replace the tracks and road wheels and sprockets, plus update guns. That is a lot to do but at the time that was the only way to get a nice kit. Cost about $200 to update everything at the time. So, I say that only as in regard to old Tamiya, which has been greatly outclassed by Dragon, except for the Famo and Dragon Wagon, two really fine kits.
