I'm thinking you could make the hat fairly easy you had a somewhat correct figure to start with.

I don't have a specific answer, but try O gauge model railroad figures. Maybe Preiser. They should be pretty close.

I tried just that. Most O gauge stuff just looks a tad too toylike.
I finally found something on Shapeways that'll work. The guy on the right is perfect. The guy is the center is useful as well.

I only have to finish my GMC 4X4 conversion from the Tamiya Refueler, and build this A-20B that I picked up yesterday at a swap meet in Denver. $40 kit for $10! Exactly what I was looking for.
