I've commissioned a sculptor to create three Polish Grom figures in 1/72nd and would like to include a Humvee with the figures. What would be a good kit to start with

Dragon has a bunch of 1/72 HMMWV kits in various versions, including M1114s. They build up pretty nicely. Here are a couple reviews I did on them.

I've got a few of the T-Model Humvees - they have three different configurations. I can say they are excellent kits. Maybe a little fiddly with lots of small pieces, but they build into excellent models (hint: stick to the instruction sequence - if you vary the order you could run into construction difficulties). They have a full interior, but lack a computer and associated electronics. Plenty of PE, and included weapons are well-done. The T-Model Humvees are better than Dragon, and more easily available.

If he's interested in expanding sales opportunities, he could sculpt what in essence are US uniformed Slovenian SF. Current uniform, knee pads, M4's, but with ProTec hekmets and unbloused trousers.

I wonder how the T-Model kits scsle out. My information is that the length of a standard Humvee is 180inches without the winch, which scales to about 63.5 mm in 1/72 and 60mm in 1/76. I have three Humvee kits. Two are labelled 1/72 and have lengths of 64 and 62 mm; one is labelled 1/76 and is 66mm long! Funnily enough, both the 1/72 ones are slightly too narrow. On the whole the Dragon one appears to be the nearest to correct scale.

Chris, I think it's a bit hard to know exactly what is being measured, and different marques have slightly different dimensions. 180' is the length given in the Haynes book for some vehicles, like the original M996, M1097, but the M1114 length is given as 196.5'.

The consistent one is the wheelbase, which is 130' / 3302mm for all versions. That scales to 45.83mm in 1/72; the T Model M1114 has a wheelbase of 46.1mm. In terms of width, centre wheel to centre axle is, I think, 904.24mm, which scales to 12.5mm; T Model = 13.25mm.
