Managed to land an Asuka M32 for my stash. Trying to plan ahead. The Brits got 300 some odd through Lend Lease. Any ideas what units got them? Italeri has markings for HQ . 20th NZ Armored in their kit. Bison has an option for one from Free French 2nd Dragoons. Trying to formulate ideas other than US markings.

Hi there,
I too have this kit and have been looking for options for non-US users.
Most I have seen are in books or magazines so don't have links.
British army canal zone( Egypt) in portland stone and black camo, early 50's
Japanese JGSDF (Asukadidthis kit with these markings in as a limited release).
IDF 1956 war.
Former Yugoslavia vehicle now in REME museum in a colour similar to WW2 German dunkelgrun.
South African SADF in Khaki coluor and
Chilean army in a similar colour to above.
These are the ones I can think of at the moment. Chile used theirs into the 1990's I think.
Regards Jason

Brazil had 1. I'm looking for war time.
I'm thinking they mostly ended up with units that got the M4A1(76) did not really want. (M32B1s were built on M4A1 hulls.) I know 1st Polish Armored and 6th South African Armored got A1(76)s, so they are prime suspects. (NOTE: The JGSDF one is a bit different than the WW@ kit. Upgrades to the turret and some differences to the equipment lay out. )

Hey
Denmark got one M32 in 1952, to recovery of our 8 M4A3 76mm Sherman, and later Centurion Mk5, It was used until the Centurion ARV arrived.
The M32 was used as target for "Mototov coctails" parties, until about 1978, Now it is put aside for museum use.
Under the Danish green paint, the US stars and the name "calematy Jane" came out.

IDF 1956 war.
I wouldn't be surprised if the IDF operated M32s well into the '80s if not the'90s...

For the British in NWE they mainly ended up in 7 AD which didn't really operate Shermans other than Fireflies and OP's - go figure. There were others later in the Independant Bde's

From what I read the Brits only took them because they had a shortage of winches to make their own ARVs. I found out from a source in Poland that the 1st Armored (Poland) had the British made (turretless) Sherman ARVs. 2nd, in Italy had a couple M31s and got a couple M32s after VE-Day. Other lead I'm working is one reported to have been with 2e régiment de dragons. Not sure if it was war time or arrived when they were doing post war occupation duty.

the 11th armoured division got them late in the war, most probably for the divisional/Armoured Brigade Workshop.
You can find a photo of one in M32 photo in Delaforce's 'The Black Bull'
alternative is the (independend) 4th armoured brigade. Again markings for the Armoured Brigade Workshop.
HTH,
Sam

4AB didn't have a Workshop, each Regt would have had LAD's but 4AB was an Army level asset allocated as required .It was not like a Division that would have had a Workshop

It begs the question of whether it was taken during the war or just after.
According to the Chars-francais website page this picture may come from, the French army received M32's after the end of the War...
