Hello, here my RSOV.

A lot of work to make a right RSOV. The Hobbyboss kit is not accurate at all for an U.S. vehicle. It is more a british prototype with a few american elements.

I have replaced the M240/L7A2 of the kit with a M249. Removed the MK1 buttstock and scratchbuilt a MK2 buttstock and replaced the weapon mount with a new one scratchbuilt.
For the front passenger ammo rack, 7,62mm ammo boxes were not used, replaced with 5,56mm ammo boxes.

Extended front boxes. They must have 13 rows of holes to be right. Kit parts have only 11.

Reversed antiskid stripes on the floor.

Wrong location of the roll bars behind the ammo racks. Right location must be 2mm back to be abble to positioning ammo boxes racks correctly.

Alex - I hope you don't take offense, but it doesn't look good. Canisters inaccurately painted, lots of carelessness. The whole model is strangely soiled. I think you can afford more and the next model will be better.

I am not a specialist, and black is extremely difficult. Exercise, exercise and exercise once ... I paint with brushes, sometimes with spray. I don't use an airbrush.

Talking about the water cans, they're made of mass-tinted plastic, so they should keep their color (no chipping....)

I can see what Piotr is getting at. I normally avoid using an airbrush myself, and the easiest and cheapest way would be doing it this way...spray what you can.

First off, your photography isn't that great so I would think that the model looks better in person than with a camera. That's because the camera's resolution is much sharper than the human eye. No worries as my photography skills are horrible too. You just don't have enough light, or your camera exposure isn't optimized, or you used a flash to glare everything. I do that too. Best bet is to photograph in sunlight outside.

That said, I assume that you didn't use primer for the entire kit. Primer covers the plastic so that none of the plastic shines through. I always spray primer with a spray can. I think that could be the reason your paint job doesn't appear that good because you're painting over bare plastic and not a surface of primer. Your paint probably didn't cover the plastic well. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd spray the body black with a spray can until it is well covered over the primer layer.

The water cans I'd use a tan spray can. If using a bottle, it looks like you painted only one coat so you can still fix that by painting on another coat. The same with the green...paint on another coat. Don't do so for the ammo boxes with decals as that would look like a double coat around the decals.

You need to drybrush. There are many videos on Youtube and articles on how to drybrush black, green, tan, and everything. Nothing pops out without drybrushing.

I'd also vary your colors such as using a graphite wooden pencil and rubbing the tip on the guns for gunmetal. Add more color variations to the seats and weapons to highlight them. If you look at photos of the real RSOV, you will notice that not everything is black. Paint the different colors and you will soon realize that your RSOV will look so much better.

Over time, invest in buying washes, inks, pigments, and markers. I ignored these for decades and once I bought them, wow, my models sure looked a whole lot better than before. These aren't silly products to make the modeler waste money---they do really work and the quality is excellent--and really make models stand out. The time and money you spend on weathering products will greatly enhance your kits.

It's not easy to paint black on model kits because the U.S. Army's black SOF vehicles (ground and helicopter) are a duller shade of black, like graphite pencil black and not pure black like on this Armorama website.

As such, you did a really nice job and the drybrushing really does improve the appearance. Thumbs up!
