Correct, the long tube was part of the original TOW launcher.
You can find images on Google of the long tube TOW on the ground and vehicle mounts dating back to the 1970s...including during Vietnam on the M151A2.
The long tube is included in the Italeri Modern Light Weapon Set. Look at the sprue images.
