Your work really is an inspiration to me (and I'm sure to others), keep going and post as often as possible. You included a little Aber on the cupola, do you plan on adding the full Aber set to the model?

Thanks. It's gettin' there. Still have a mountain of work to do but that's fine. Contest deadlines are no longer an issue so building can proceed at a pleasurable pace.

Cleared(again) some customer obligations from the shop and have been able to get back to my giant Tiger. Finally smoothed the belly pan and removed ALL evidence of the RC 'thing'. Making co-planar this very large canvas was more like cabinet work than model-building. :-) but I have next to my model bench a surface-ground lapping plate which functioned quite adequately as a block-sander to ensure the entire surface is a completely flat plane.

Tamiya has molded the armored headlight fittings from a later production version than which the kit actually represents. These 'faceted' fittings were what was actually mounted on the version supplied in the box. Without David Byrden's terrific Tiger 1 site it would not be possible to accurately dimension many of the components in this build. Thanks, David. http://tiger1.info/topicIndexEN.html

What a great job you are doing on this! From one machinist to another, I can say that I am floored by your small scale fabrication of parts. I thought some of the parts that I make for movie props were fiddly, but you sir, take the cake in that department!

I'm having fun with this guy. Here are the armored headlight fittings with the texture and hardware installed...

The texture was accomplished by squirting on high-build primer at a distance, allowing the primer to land almost dry which built up a ragged texture which, before the primer had opportunity to cure, was burnished with the flat side of an X-Acto blade to flatten the high spots - looks kinda kool. For a size reference the armored bolt is on the end of a wooden Q-tip.

Hi Jeff,

Some customer work has been getting in the way of playing but he hasn't been forgotten. This is a long-term project which means he isn't going to be walking around anytime soon but he will eventually prowl a display case.
