I bought the Rye Field kit, but I never did find out if the Beetle changed during the war's duration and if so, which version this represents.

Thanks. I've gone batty going through all the VW Beetle resources I could find.

The Type 82e is not the same as the KDF-wagen, so right off there are several differences with the most notable being the Type 82e was mounted on a Kubelwagen chassis and not the standard Type 1 chassis.

As far as the Type 82e changing, there weren't really many visible changes to the vehicle other than maybe some differences in the air cleaner depending on the source. There were more obvious changes made during the British occupation such as the odd roller-device under the front apron.

Did you know in the first ten years of the Beetle's existence over 5000 changes were made to it? Almost all were mechanical and internal where they went unnoticed by most.

The doors have no hinges to keep them open.
There is a lever for 4 wheel drive, but the 82E did not have this feature.
The trunk interior is completely inaccurate.
But it assembles well and looks the part.

The 4-wheel drive was in the Type 87 Kommandeurswagen. Unless more have turned up in the past few years, there are only three survivors of that variant.

Actually I thought the 82E did have 4-wheel drive.

Just keep the trunk shut. But that was a pretty big error. Almost as if they wanted to make a Type 87 and then changed to the Type 82e halfway through.
