Not a big fan of Bundeswehr Arty, but this looks really nice. I think this pretty much completes the M109 line with AFV Club kits, minus the M109A7 which Panda has done a really nice kit of.

They haven't released M109A1 yet (other than the converted IDF version, which they incorrectly described as M109A2).
There are also M109A3, A4 and A5, but these all can be built from A2 kit with minimum effort. M109A1 is not that simple (although the new M109 kit will make it so).

True. I guess I was thinking all the major versions that would make it pretty easy to build other versions off of by mixing and matching different parts of their existing kits are now available. Either way, a welcome addition to the line.

For example:

M108: AFV Club kit

M109: AFV Club kit

M109G - Germany: AFV Club kit

M109A1
Replaced the M126 gun (M109 gun) with a longer barreled, 39 caliber M185 gun.
To model: Use the M109 kit and replace the barrel with one from the M109A2 kit. Alternately, use IDF M109 Rochev 1983 kit and leave off all IDF parts.

M109A1 Rochev (1983) - IDF: AFV Club kit

M109A2: AFV Club kit

M109A2 Doher - IDF: AFV Club kit

M109A3
Rebuilt M109A1 to A2 standards; only external differences to an A2 are flotation bolts left on hull sides and lugs left on front lower plate. To model: Use the M109 hull, but leave off the flotation collar on top of the hull under the front of the turret. Also use M109A2 turret.

M109A4
M109A2 and A3s with added NBC protection and a few other improvements; all intenal, no external differences to A2s.

M109A5
Replaces the M185 gun with the M284 gun (also used on M109A6). To model: Use the M109A2 kit and replace the barrel with one from the M109A6 kit.

M109A6: AFV Club kit

M109A7: Panda kit

Next they need to make the M992 ammo carriers to go with the newer guns. They have the M548 ammo carrier to go with the earlier (m109 through M109A2) kits.

A nice looking kit. How much turret interior is there, or just the breech?

I have never noticed Hoffman devices used on Field Artillery tubes before, since those were generally considered not to be in direct contact with OPFOR, such as armor and mech infantry vehicles were.

It should have the same as the other AFV Club M109 kits. They include the gun breech, inner rear hull door details, details on the inside of all the hatches, and turret rear and side door inner details. Other than that, no real interior datail/parts.

Black Dog makes an M109A2 interior set for them that can be modified for other versions though.

Typically, and I'm sure not uniquely, I have a stash of several Italeri versions; I'll probably tough them out as I hate giving up on a kit. What is nice to see with the AFV Club versions is the open hatches and more than a hint of interior. Modifying the Italeri kits to a similar standard is very much a labour of love.

Well done AFV Club.

M109A3
Rebuilt M109A1 to A2 standards; no external differences to an A2

That's not entirely true - A3 retained some of the swim barrier mounting hardware from A1 on the hull (on hull sides and lower front plate). A2s left the factory without it. So it's cosmetic only difference, but it's there.

Be nice if they would do an interior, even if a separate kit like they did with the Sturmtiger. That way pairing the ammo carriers with the 109, so you could see inside both, would have more meaning.

Then they can start on producing the M107 and M110 line....

I vaguely remember seeing the Bundeswehr deploying these at Camp Shilo near where I live though I don't remember them ever being in that shade of brown(?); we'd go out periodically and observe them on maneuvers back in the day before that unique situation ended and the camp was retasked as a Canadian Forces base once again. That sad day ended decades of use by the German Army here in Western Manitoba; the only place outside of Europe where Leopards did prowl with Marders as escorts.

Be advised the Black Dog interior kit for M109A2 has some workmanship issues. I am using the Black Dog kit #T35101 in an AFV Club M109A2 #AF35109 at the present and have spent considerable time repairing badly molded parts.

This is my fifth resin kit from five different manufactures and by no means the worst; however, I expected better quality from Black Dog.

I think that is supposed to represent early Gelb-Oliv, yellow-olive.

I like RoG Revel Germany, early BundesWehr Gelb-Oliv & later BW Olivgrün, Olive-Green. These were the Pre-NATO 3 colour schemes.

Both colours are available in enamel & Aqua acrylic, at least in the UK.

CFB Shilo was always a CF Base. GATES was just a lodger unit. Shilo is the Home Base of the Canadian Artillery. home to 3RCHA and then 1 RCHA. yes it was awesome watching the Leopards do their battle run.
