MATES (Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site) are for storing and maintaining Army National Guard equipment/vehicles when not being used by guard units. The equipment/vehicles are drawn for training by various units as needed. Usually, the only permanent markings would be a serial number on the hull for the MATES to track the vehicle. Drawing units add their unit-specific bumper numbers to them, which are usually painted over again when they are turned back in.

As an example, this is an M1135 Stryker NBC RV (Recon Vehicle) at a MATES at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

Hi Gino,

Thanks for your fast answer.
I once did see some pictures of an m1 tank with markings on his fenders saying: mates ???
??? Stands for a number.
Anyone has seen this pictures also ?
