Hi,
It seems that the M48A2 has been used by USAREUR a little time.
Should it be possible to use the Revell M48A2CG (ref 03287) to realize something accurate, naturally without the specific German parts ?
If yes, I suppose that changing the tracks with AFV one's would be better ?
Or should I abandon this idea of an A2 and be better to make a M48A5 (Dragon 3611).

According to Scalemates the M48a2 was used in Germany by the 14th Cavalry Regiment.
See Revell kit # 3206.

If I recall correctly you need a specific sprue that is not included in the M48A2CG kit in order to get a M48A2C. So you cant build a US ARMY tank from the kit OOB.

It depends on what you want to build.
M48A2C tanks were used in USAREUR, but one can not be built from the Revell kit, without a little extra work/parts. It does not have the US-specific parts sprues that contain the US cupola, barrel, mantlet, fuel cans, A2C tensioner wheel, and complete turret basket parts (the Ger. version has a storage box in the middle of the turret basket).
This is the US M48A2C sprues that ares missing.
These are the German parts-specific sprues that replace them.
For the M48A5, to my knowledge, none were used in USAREUR, but they were used by the 1st and 2nd Bns of the 72 Tank Regiment, 2 ID in ROK (Republic of Korea, S. Korea) in the '80s. M48A5s also outfitted many Army Reserve and National Gurd units.

For the M48A2, as I see in details from Scalemates, the sprue G that you mentionned is exactly included in the Revell 03287 M48A2CG (but not in the other M48A2GA2 set).
Thus only the little sprue labelled H (with the jerrycans,...) is missing.
May be I can try to buy it directly from Revell.
And as I have also in stock (+550 not yet build models, all US forces) the old Academy M48A3 and M48A5, may be I can use some parts of them ?

Yes, you can mix and match parts from those three kits to get whatever version you want to build.
For a Korea-based M48A5, you will have to make some changes to the Dragon kit as well. You can see what needs to be changed/added at my recent build of one here. You probably have all the extra parts (minus the M551 .50 cal mount) for one in the Academy M48A5 kit.

The M48A2C was used across all units and locations the US Army operated in the '50-'60s.

As I understand it Revell first brought out their M48 A2/AC kit no 03206. This enabled a Bundeswehr version and a US version to be built (Israel markings also included). At around the same time they brought out the M48A2GA2 which is a specific German mod to the M48 and incorporates the 105mm gun; this is kit no 03236.
Last year or thereabouts they issued an M48 A2CG which included Bundeswehr modifications to the earlier M48A2 such as smoke dischargers, searchlight etc. This is kit no 03287. It is possible to make a US M48A2 from this kit I imagine by omitting the German modifications, but sadly the kit doesn't come with the US markings that were included in kit 03206 - as I discovered earlier today upon receipt - I too am keen to make a USAREUR version!
Be aware that all Revell M48s come with a rather overdone cast effect which may need some work. Also note that the ancient Monogram M48 is still a good basis on which to work: new tracks required and some basic modelling skills but not impossible.

I suggest you buy the Dragon 3565 IDF Magach 2 ( 2 in 1 ) model.
It has everything you need (except decals) and is better than the revell model

On closer inspection of my Revell kit I note that the overdone "cast" finish is likely to be a real PITA to remove; without hijacking the thread (too much) have any others found a way around this - apart from using another kit?!

Spray with a thick primer and sand it down a bit. The primer will fill the cast texture in a bit and the sanding will remove it from the high spots, thus reducing the overall texture.

Thanks Gino - really useful - and will hopefully save me from sanding in inaccessible places. I may well use the kit in combination with a Monogram version (acquired very cheaply) and also utilise the OOP Lo Models conversion kit to produce the 105mm version. Of course, this is all counter intuitive - why not acquire the appropriate Revell kit (?) - which would be a logical response, but I feel I could do with the conversion practice utilising the Lo kit. We'll see, but thanks anyway.

Useful exercise. Just as the Revell kit was released I built 2 Monogram kits, one as an M48A2 and second as an M48A2G using Lo (turret box and searchlight) and Afv-club bits.(fender and brake lights)
Michael's 40% off coupon they were under $12 each.
That way I was free to do the Revell as Israeli.
There's really not a lot needed from the Monogram kit if you have the Revell.
