Of course, it's not long ago that I bought the Italeri kit...

Very useful review but needless to say I have the Italeri one in my stash; truly the Law of Sod reigns supreme!
However, I'll struggle on with the Italeri version and build it some day.

I too have the old Italeri kit but mine is in the process of being built. Based on the review, AFV Club's version certainly outshines Italeri's. I'll finish the one I'm building with a lot of added detail and eventually I'll pick up AFV Club's (I mean, I have the 109A2 and A6, so this one would fit nicely).

A kinda related question:and please forgive the very unartillery like terminogy
Why, if the role of a howitzers is to "lob" a projectile are they built with a facility for depression below the horizontal? I think I'm missing something

My guess is while they generally want to reach out and touch someone, close in and/or sloping away terrain makes it mathematically harder to compute and predict where the round lands, going below the horizon makes it easier to hit the target safely.
Like Philippe, do I want to dance with Italeri kit that is on hand or get this kit. Probably by the time I can build it, on the secondary market it can be had for a cheaper price.

No, it is not any harder to calculate an indirect firing solution below the plane of the gun. It can be depressed below the horizontal in the event you need to use it in the direct fire mode for self defense. By sighting trough the open breech or using the direct sight on the upper right of the gun, you can somewhat effectively engage targets directly. While not the preferred method, it can be done as a last resort to prevent from being overrun.
