Hi Guys,

Does anyone have pictures of Russian anti tank guns mounted on German half tracks, I once thought I saw a captured Russian 45mm gun mounted on one.

Cheers Mike

SdKfz. 251/10 had a 3,7 cm Pak 36 attached. These could easily be mistaken with a Soviet 45 mm gun.

Hi Hans-Herman,

Very true re the 251/10 & also the 250, but I am 70% certain from my old man’s memory, that the photo I saw it had a longer barrel than the German 37mm anti tank gun.

Plus I think there was also a 250 with a 37mm mounted also in the same picture.
Thanks
Mike

The only half track mounting a Soviet gun that I know of is the 76mm anti tank gun mounted onto a box-like armored structure on the rear of an SdKfz 6 halftrack. It is reffered to as the 'Dana'.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I see it quite in the realm of possibility that a field mod to mount the Soviet 45mm onto an SdKfz 251 is entirely possible. Any bigger gun would require serious internal bracing and reinforcement to handle the greater recoil forces involved. When dealing with one-offs, its always best if you have a photo to work from.

Good luck on your search!

There were Sd.Kfz. 251 with the PaK 40

I guess they needed a heavier punch than the 37 mm

This one has been captured in North Africa

The PaK 38 (50 mm) was also mounted on the 250

https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2-germany-sdkfz250-mit-5cm-pak-38/

The Sd.Kfz. 10 also carried the 50 mm and the 37 mm PaK

I think the 75 mm or the ex-Soviet 76,2 mm were too heavy and/or large for the Sd.Kfz. 250. The armoured hull of the 250 had to be extended at the rear to be able to fit that 50 mm PaK and the 75 mm was larger ...
The 250-chassis did carry a 75 mm piece but that was the short barreled "howitzer" or 'Stummel'

/ Robin

Edit: removed reference to ex-French 50 mm, I had confused PaK 38 with Pak 97/38

The ex-French PaK 38 (50 mm) was also mounted on the 250

What do you mean by "ex-French" Robin ?

My mistake, I confused it with the PaK 97/38

I have corrected my post.
