I picked up a book the otherday about panzers in defense of Festung / Posen Poland in 1945. In it was an odd Tiger that used a mid hull with an early turret. It was the only Tiger there, and it sorta caught me eye. Now I'm thinking about building one. Anybody here know anything about this odd ball Tiger?

Posen was a city and a German province in the eastern part of 19th century Germany, became part of Poland in 1919.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_Posen
The current name of the town Posen is Poznan:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pozna%C5%84
This area is quite far from the area where Gruppe Fehrmann drove around in Tiger tanks, around 500 miles or more than 800 kilometres.
I don't think that a Tiger tank was moved from the eastern to the western front. Especially considering that the eastern fron was prioritised in the hope that German could seduce the western allies to join them in the fight against Bolshevism (crazy, I know, but some of the leadership had that dream ...)

It's not unheard of or rare for a photograph to either be captioned incorrectly or used incorrectly when relating to a particular area, time frame or model variant.
As already mentioned there was instances during the final stages of WW2 when the Germans short on equipment gathered together vehicles, tanks etc from various establishments, training grounds to put into action against the Allies.
Reviews of kits available from David's extensive site on the Tiger that sound like what you describe.

http://tiger1.info/models/products-page/CH6335
You'll be lucky to get the last kit I listed as it was a limited run and if you do find one it'll probably be very expensive. The first two would be easier to source.

Well, if I can't see the photo, I can't talk about it.
Yes, if you google "posen tiger" you do get a photo, but that may not be what the book contains.

This is an early Tiger with steel wheels retrofitted. Note the S-Mine launchers.
Tiger I on the Battlefield by Peko Publishing identifies the location as Czestochowa, Poland, and belonging to sPzAbt 501. I have no idea if that is correct, but I have no reason to doubt it either.

You're correct,
Noted that Military Chronicle's "Panzertruppen 1945", has the same unit/ location.

Are you sure? I don't see any reason to call that an "early turret".

David,
It's the pic from "Panzers in the defense of Festung Posen 1945", by Karalus & Jerzak, so yes I'm sure.

There was only one Tiger and some Panthers. Everything else was Stug's . I think the unit number was 500. The picture isn't great, but looks like the road wheels are rubber tired. Also the turret looks like it has an odd box on the back end. Cannot read any numbers on the turret
