Nice. I figured that a standard M60A1 would eventually come as they had pretty much all the parts for it in their USMC M60A1 (RISE/Passive) w/ERA kit.

That's an M60A1, same as Afv-club. Why not a slick M60? I'd like to see an alternative to the Dragon kit.

O, yeah, that (M60 slick) would be nice, too!
Regardless, GREAT news for the modern fans!! Thanks Takom!

And the Merkava is a 2D. Academy has a 2D kit as well.

I bet it will be more accurate than the Academy kit in dimensions.

Because Takom does not benefit in any way from AFV Club kit sales?
Because M60A1 was (and still is) used by many more countries, so there is a potential for more sales?
Because, as Gino mentioned, Takom already had all the parts in their earlier kit, so it will be easy for them to release this kit with minimum effort, now when other manufacturers struggle with reduced capacity of manufacturing in China?...
Yes, I also want a usable "slick" kit, but could we just for once be happy about the new kit and not greet it with complains that it's not something else?...

Rolling out a Mk.2D was kind of expected from Takom after the Mk.1, Mk.1 Hybrid and the Mk.2B. I doubt they'll fix the barrel issue though...

I like 2D, it is one of my favorite Merkava variants. Hope to see the comparison reviews with the Academy offering.

Good news for fans of the M60A1.
Personally, I'm still hoping for Takom or AFV Club to do a good Vietnam-era M48A3 (don't mention the Lizzard's Black Horror thing please).

Actaually the Dragon M48s are pretty good models with only a few, easily corrected issues.

Their M60 series is another animal; pretty bad to say the least.

Personally I'm just thrilled that Takom is offering modern armour and look forward to seeing what else they might tempt us with in the near future.

You are right. Maybe this will get me to get rid of my pile of Academy kits and update the stash. Question is: can I get this past the wife?

Dump or sell the Academy plastic, keep the Academy boxes and reuse them for the new plastic.
SWMBO will never know the difference as long as you get rid of the evidence (i.e. the Takom boxes)

I completely agree 100% with Vodnik. It's been said before, if you don't like it, head over to the manufacturer's office and tell them how to do it...!!! Obviously there are many out there that know better.

I'm thrilled. There are two tanks that would make me break my rule to not buy any new kits until I've put a dent in my stash. This and a T-80 by any of my favorite brands is one of them.
It seems to have taken a long time to get here, and I've been checking since Takom did the first M60 variant. And then there was another one. And then finally this one. Couldn't be happier about it.
Would anyone have a guess on a release date?

While nothing official, "The Modeling News" website is giving a release date of April/May for these four kits. The Merkava Mk.2D tentatively has the next stock number, so I suspect it will be first released followed by the M60A1 if the two are not released at the same time. However, time will tell.

Letting two kits share one box is another possibility ....
There is usually enough space in the boxes.

How can you even suggest that in this era of social distancing? Kits are our friends too.

...or you sell your Academy kits openly, meaning for her to obviously notify you doing it and then you'll have the greatest reason to get a new kit ever: got rid of more than one, replaced it with only one... always works with my wife and even making her smile due to my effort! Aren't we some bad, bad boys...!?
