I know that there are various acrylic paints dedicated to IDF colours, but I am one of the few people still preferring to use enamels. Can anyone suggest a good mix (either Humbrol or Revell) for a 1990s-era IDF AFV? I have been told that the shade is often referred to as 'hemp', quite different from the earlier sand colour.

I found this 5*Hu:95 + 4*Hu:155 + 3*Hu:94 + 2*Hu:150 for the hemp color you are looking for.

You can also try by starting with a greenish shade color (105, 106 or even 240) and add sand and a bit of grey to get the shade you want.

Next to US Olive Drab, IDF colours are probably the most difficult to replicate on a model ... particularly in my scale (1/72).

100% agree. This recommendation comes from Michael Mass, noted IDF expert, author and IDF armor museum 'curator'. That color does comes with the best pedigree possible. If you are inclined to do a simple mix of Tamiya paints to match, quite closely, Humbrol 84, a mix of XF-20 to XF-49 in a 2:1 ratio, and you're in! I base this on recommendations, and then personal trial and error to verify this mix.

For a post 90's vehicle RLM02 is a good start (Humbrol 240) or RC266 or RC052 from the Real Color line of AK. With a slight sandish/earth shade filter and the color will be spot on.
