Hello all. I recently received an email wich showed me my email and a password that I only use for this site. The email is the standard blackmail scenario, stating that they gained access to sensible material on my computer and that I should pay a ransom if I don’t want any of this sent to my contacts. So the purpose of this thread is to let everybody know that your password and account may be compromised since the password the phishing email sent me is only used on this site.

Yeah, I had exactly the same. As usual just ignored it and eventually they stopped, but as you say a password I only used here. Will be interesting to see how many more there are.

I got a similar scam email today and in February of 2019.
Today’s email had the password I was using a year ago on this site.
There was a thread about it then, I’ll see if can dig it up.

If they had gained access to your computer, they wouldn't have sent an email - they would have locked the whole thing down. Did they attach one of your own files? I don't think so!
They don't have access to your computer. They have the password for this site and any other sites where you used the same password.
Change them pronto.

If they claimed access to sensible material on my computer I would know that they are lying. None of that stuff on my machine
Sensitive material is another thing though ....
As Byrden writes: If they have access to your computer they would already have locked it and taken it hostage.
Changing the passwords right now would be a good idea even if the worst damage they could do is to post something stupid here posing as You.

Changed my password. I'm paranoid. Although, it's pretty funny to get emails from my cousin the Nigerian prince.
