I am building a Tasca firefly diorama with a crew at rest shooting the sh*t after a battle inspired by this photo.



I still have weathering to do on the firefly and more detailed figure painting. But I am wondering what might be a good way of modeling the foliage/camo on this firefly. As you can see in the photo below, I took a crack at a net before and while I like the net i want to add foliage to the barrel similar to the top photo

Well, all I'd suggest is that you do it much like they did in real life. Get some scale foliage (whatever your favouite diorama foliage line is, there are a number) and literally thread into the mesh.

Here is my attempt at doing it. Found some scale foliage that fit my references well. Any thoughts? If I left it as is I will done down the starkness of the green once dry.

Looks very convincing! Toning down that bright plastic green to something more natural would be a good idea

I’ll definitely tone down the green to more of a dark green and maybe mix in some other shades so it isn’t monochrome

I've used the "Pine" branches from The Scenic Factory. They are a natural preserved product that resemble pine foliage very well. It comes in different tones.

I tried flattening the top down a bit so it isn’t as spikey looking and added some hanging pieces as well to make the foliage a little more dynamic. I might have to trim som the foliage a bit so it isn’t too bushy, and will tone down the bright green, but here is more or less the finished product with two photos I used for reference.
