I have never done any armor or vehicles from the north African campaign for ww2 period. I am looking to do something other than the typical Sherman or panzer type armor/vehicle.

Can anyone recommend a good building kit of an unusual looking armor or vehicle that would have been used in the north African campaign for ww2.

Full score on odd, North Africa and WW II

Russian 76,2 mm anti tank gun captured by the Germans on the Eastern Front,
sent to Africa and mounted in a "home made" armoured box on a German
halftrack to fire at the British.

Bronco usually have a LOT of parts so they require a bit more work.
Quality is good.

Maybe not the vehicles themselves, but their camos are definitely unusual...

Thunder Model's offering actually includes this version:

That's a post-war Scammell Explorer with a pair of post-war Ferrets behind it.

Dragon kit

Something really rare. Pak 50 mm portee, used by French troops at Bir Hakeim.

However, there's no kit of this one, so you'll have to combine different kits, and scratch build the ammo rack.

Reminds me of the two kits released by Best Value Models (but I don't know if these are still available somewhere, Azimut Production website is MIA....) :

North Africa was also the war of gun-trucks... The Brits, Italians, and Germans all put assorted guns onto available trucks - there are a few newer kits around (an Italeri Brit 6-pounder "portagee", and a recent IBG Italian howitzer on a truck, and a Breda gun on a German truck pop to mind). And there are kits out for the LR Desert patrol truck (Tamiya) and SAS jeeps.

And there is plenty of photo record of many other gun-on-truck set-ups - a great field for scratch- and kit-bash builders.

Both Bronco and Dragon have kitted the early StuG III (IIRC, Ausf D) which made a rare appearance (I believe a total of 6) in north Africa - so add those to the rare tracked types. Also add in the kits of the German SPG built on the Lorraine L37 tractor -

In short, there are a fair number of "north Africa war" kits available, covering both "stock-model" tanks and armored cars and many of the rarer and one-off conversions, along with a variety of suitable truck and car kits.

Cheers! Bob

Agree with Bob, here are some examples. (Even if less exotic.)

3Ro truck with 100mm howitzer

CMP truck with Breda gun

(announced) 3Ro truck with 90 mm AA gun

For LRDG trucks, combine the Tamiya LRDG truck with Resicast resin updates.
