Been working on Trumpeter's kit of the M1117, and would like to place a figure in the turret hatch. The crewman shown in the box art is wearing a tanker's helmet. Would a modern tanker figure be suitable? Or, instead of the tanker's coveralls, should he be wearing BDU's? Any help would be appreciated. Al

The Guardians were crewed by MP's who would be wearing either ACU's or Multi Cam uniforms.

The helmet is a CVC (Combat Vehicle Crewman) helmet. It can be used in any combat vehicle that has an intercom system installed.
They can also use a headset over a standard Kevlar or Mich helmet as well (as terminators' link shows above).
The uniform could also be 3-color DCU depending on when/where you are depicting as well.

Not being too familiar with modern uniforms and equipment, would these figures from Miniart be suitable?
I may have to perform surgery on the figure to place him in the turret, and I'd rather not butcher an expensive resin figure if I can help it.

Yes, they represent crewmen from about 2008 to 2015. This is based on the UCP (Universal Camo Pattern - digital grey camo) and the IOTV (Improved Outer Tactical Vest) body armor they are wearing.
If you paint them in the newer OCP (Operational Camo Pattern - multi-color, woodland-like pattern) they can be from about 2015 to present.

To put a figure in the turret, you need to enlarge the roof hole, because of the misalignment with the turret hole.

Thanks, Gino, Alex, Really appreciate the comeback. Have to pick up a set, and decide how I want to position the turret before modifying the opening. Al

Decided to go with the Miniart set of figures. I wanted to use a head without the Balaclava but wasn't happy with the two included. So I ordered a set of Hornet heads. Rather than modify the turret and the hull top to use a standing figure I cut the one I chose into a half-figure. He fills the hatch opening so it isn't noticeable at all that he's not the man he should be. One trick I'd learned from a friend is to 'box-in' the area around a hatch opening when using a half figure or bust, and paint the inside black. This works much better than using the platform usually provided, and the figure looks more convincing. This is the result of my efforts.
I added the wire going from his helmet to the switch in his left hand, it disappears into the turret. Thanks again for the responses and the help. Al
