Hi there, I have the Takom Jagdtiger Kit 8001. Included in the transfer/decal sheet are serial numbers 305022 for Vehicle "323" and serial number 305020 for vehicle "331". The instructions indicate that these serial numbers should be applied over the camouflage to the front of the vehicle.

Is there any evidence to suggest this is correct? I am thinking of recreating vehicle 323, which calls for adding the serial number decal. But I have not sighted any photos or evidence that this is correct?

I have seen only pictures of two vehicles with serial numbers on the front. These being 305001 and 305010. Both of which I beleive are Porsche variants. Perhaps this indicates that it was only ever the porsche variants that had serial numbers painted on?

Any thoughts?

PS - im sure this has been covered somewhere on Armorama before. However, when I do a search using the search function at top of Armorama page, the results seem to always *exclude* forum topics. Does anyone know how to do a search within armorama that includes forum posts / topics?

There is a photo of 323 at Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in the Book The Combat history of German Heavy Anti-tank Unit 653

There is also another picture of it and 331 where they were destroyed by their crews in close proximity. 331 was the one with the damage to the gun collar and gun in partial recoil, later sent to Aberdeen.

The Porsche produced Jagdtigers were SN's 305001, 305003-305012. The two SN's referenced on the Takom decal sheet are both Henschel produced. I believe it was normal practice to apply the SN to the front of the vehicle, at production.

On page 206 of Andrew Devey's Jagdtiger there is a photo of a Henschel Jagtiger with the fahrgestellnummer 305032 visible on the glacis.
