I know from asking previously that sand colors on Iraqi vehicles from the modern era could vary a lot. Same with the British vehicles as well? I have the Meng Rolls with the desert tires ready to roll.

Tom,

According to Dick Taylor in his Warpaint series of books, not at all. England had their BSC/SCC Standards for miltary paint colors. Just about every paint maker makes British desert colors called out by name and number, so you shouldn't have a problem obtaining a paint or finding something you already have that matches.

There were several specific colours stated in War Office instructions depending on the period with which you are concerned. I can highly recommend the work of Mike Starmer in this field, although I’d look out his own books rather than the AK ‘Real colours’ tome in which his contribution was rather hacked about.

The other problem is, the RAF version of the Rolls Royce with the extra guns...I'm not even sure what era or location it is supposed to represent! Buying before thinking.

Right - If you could give me a year I could look it up on the BSC 381C chart and tell you what color you need for "sand".

It's like the bottom car, but with just plain sand and RAF markings.

Tom,

You want BSC 62 Middle Stone. After August 1941 you can also use BSC 61 Light Stone. These are easy colors to find.

Thanks. I did wonder if the RAF would use different paint colors on their vehicles or not.
