With such an extensive range of kits available, which one is most appropriate to use as a base for 1/72 'Tiki'?

I would assume Dragon 7482, and then use David Byrden's site for the tweaks, such as the different mantlet, etc.

I'm actually not very familiar with Dragon's 1/72 Tigers, because I usually am not involved directly in their design.
