Looking ahead to painting my AFV Club King Cobra gun truck, it appears it was painted black. Was this paint field applied? Trying to determine if the inside of the cab and the chassis would have been left in OD green or repainted when the truck/M113 was repainted black. Thanks.

The black was applied in country (usually in a maintenance depot) and the cab interior was usually left green.

Jason,
Also note that the kit instructions show all the interior parts being added to the M113. This was not the case. The M113 interior was stripped of all unneeded parts to reduce weight. Usually, the fuel tank, battery box, engine and tranny, and other heavy parts were removed before being mounted on the truck.
I emptied out the interior on mine, including the bulkhead and engine compartment. I filled it with c-rat boxes, bags, and other various stowage.
You just don't want it bad enough. The price is really not that bad when you consider it is basically two complete kits, and then some. Minus tracks for the M113, you could build both a basic M54 and an M113A1 from what is in the box. If you bought the kits separately to build the guntruck, you would likely spend more and still need to do a bit of scratch-building and need a few more parts. I know as I did it a long time ago (2005??), before the M54 was even available. I had to kitbash a lengthened M35 cab and an M925 frame to get an M54, then add the M113, source extra .50 cals and mounts, tie-down turnbuckles, etc., etc., etc...

Nice work, Gino- glad you mentioned the M113 interior. I haven't reached that point yet, luckily Was the ACAV armor painted with the flag artistic license or did King Cobra have that at some point?

Apparently, it had a few variations on the markings as different crews rotated on/off it. The pics I based it on are below.
W/out the cab soft top.
W/out RWB gun shied, different marking versions.

Thanks...there are a couple pics in there I didn't have. Did you make your own masks for the stars?

I made my own decal using computer decal paper for the star field. The red/white lower portion, the words King Cobra, and the cobra snake were all painted by hand. The rest of the vehicle markings and stencils came from various kit decals and dry transfer numbers/letters.
