I have a bottle of Model Master Lacquer paint, that I want to use vs disposing of.
However the thinner recommend is Custom Lacquer thinner No. 28016 is not available online.
So as to not hold up this project is there a recommended alternative?

Would their universal thinner work?

Otherwise I'd try lacquer thinner from the hardware store.

Hi Barney,
I DO have that. I知 one of these that likes to stick with the manufacture specs.
I did look at it and thought about it but held off.
I値l give it a try. I値l post the results negative or positive.

The Testor Universal stuff is intended for the enamel paints, I
would not mix it with Testor Lacquer paint.
Hardware store lacquer thinner is a better choice but again be
careful as most of these thinners are "very hot".
Cheers,

Correct Joe. I just found that out the hard way. I cleaned it up though. Back to square one.
I tried hardware lacquer thinner this morning but for some reason it blew out a fuzzy cotton like paint.

Maybe try some Gunze Mr Levelling Thinner if you can get it, or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type. I've used both of these in quite a few different lacquer, enamel and acrylic paints and they work really well.

It might be worth a try using the locally available lacquer thinner. The Testors Universal might not be strong enough for your paint.
I'm still using Floquil Dio Sol. I bought a few very large cans of the stuff. It works well with MM and Humbrol. Chemically it might be comparable to the Testors version you seek. Get a small container and mix it with a bit of your paint with a brush and see how it behaves. If it thins well without clumping and dries promptly to the correct sheen of the paint in question... you're good to go.
Added....Sorry I didn't see where you already tried the hardware store type lacquer thinner.

I noticed this on a railroading site:
Formula to make Dio Sol
You can recreate the Dio Sol:
By volume
38% toluene
41% xylene
21% Naptha 100 (from Sherwin Williams)
Another poster said to use regular drying lacquer thinner and to avoid the fast drying/evaporating version since it created problems with his paint.
