Can anyone help me with info on kits for this weapon.
Which is the best kit to use,the old Airfix/Max/Peerless kit or the Italeri version(are they all one and the same?),what is needed to accurize them. And are there any other kits on the market in 1:35th in resin/metal or plastic?TIA....Dave.

They are the same but the original Peerless Max version came with metal tubes for the barrel and recoil mechanism, springs, vinyl tires and a metal axle. I scored the Max one on eBay real cheap (box crushed, instructions missing, kit mint) and got several e-mailed copies of the Italeri, Testors and Max instructions. All the same kit.

Just to be technically correct, those models are not of a "155 Gun" but of a 155 Howitzer.
The current "155 Gun" kit is that by AFV Club and, with the exception of the too-modern tires and some sink-holes, is quite good. Very crisp detail makes the Eduard detail set superfluous.

Not sure what AFV Club kit you are talking about. The Modern towed 155mm howitzer is the M198 and it is not available in plastic by anyone. There is a resin kit from Australia available for about $100 though. The other towed semi-modern, some are still in the National Guard, howitzer AFV Club does is the M102 105mm howitzer. The only orher US howitzers they do are the WWII to Korea era M59 155mm Long Tom and the 203mm (8 inch) M114 on the same chasis as the Long Tom.

I was referring to the "Long Tom" kit as the only "current" (ie, available) kit of a true 155 "gun", as opposed to the 155 how that was being discussed/misnamed..
and BTW, congrats on your absolutely superb M123A1C, etc -- I remember them from 30 some years ago, pop-pop-popping (the Reo engine sound) away down the road in Germany ... looking at what we had then & the HET of today -- what we wouldn't have given for that ...
