How is this done?
Do I chip the base colour, and then spray the vehicle again, put on the camo colour, and chip again?
Do I wash the tank after the second chipping to get the excess hairspray off?
I don't think I can simply spray the hairspray where the camo will go, as the spray isn't precise enough.
Dan.

Hi Dan,
Here's how I do it, others may have different suggestions:
1. Apply color that you want to be color of chips. Apply protective varnish (matt works best for me for smaller chips). Let dry for a day or two.
2. Apply hairspray in 2 thin layers. As soon as it is dry to touch, apply base acrylic color. When base color is dry to touch, you can start with chipping. When satisfied, protect with another layer of varnish. Again, let dry for at least 24 hours.
3. Apply another 2 thin layers of hairspray, then apply camo color. Do the chipping and again protect it with varnish, this time satin for further weathering.
And that's it. No need for washing away the hairspray.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.
I've not tried hairspray chipping yet. This is my first time.
I also heard you should thin the paint?

You can thin it, but more important is to apply it in thin layers to have more control over chipping.

Can you use the technique over a coat of matt varnish?

Honestly, if you put the Varnish to protect Decals it's okay, but if not I don't see the reason, the Chipping fluid or the hairspray doesn't affect the base color, and even the water you use for the Chipping doesn't affect the paint, you do not use any solvent so for me it is useless ... my personal opinion.
For the matt surface it is not a big problem,it depends if you want a heavy chipping or not, the more you go to the satin or gloss the easier it is,but on the other hand, Matt is more controllable. the best is to do some tests, take an old model or a plastic bottle, primer, paint and try on Matt, satin, gloss or without varnish at all and with various tools

Does it matter if the hairspray is scented or unscented, or is only unscented advised?
