Found when I was looking for something else, all credit etc to the image owner, posted here for discussion purposes only. Ok, how do I make them images, not links, someone?

the picture are from the vehicles MK4 that went to USA for trials out there for warm weather use, designed to IDF requests BUT never made it there, more information on Facebook chieftain site from the crew of the trials.

I was looking at this and saw some distinct similarities with the Merkava turret, not least of which the “gutter” to the right of the gun, and the slope of the turret to the left.

I thought the story was that though Israel help develop the Chieftain, all the Arab nations forbade Britain to provide Israel with any of them?

Think it was the foreign office and Government was pushing the sale, but the home office stopped it, due to oil, our refineries were only able to process heavy oil, north sea was light oil and required a different way to process. Would have cost more then the sale of armour to change. Well something like that from what I remember being told.
