Original photograph is from Evgueni Khaldei on may, the 2nd 1945 in Berlin. He died in 1997 and was one of the most important photographer of the XXth century. And not only as war photographer.
On the original film, the officer/subofficer who is holding the soldier with the flag got a watch on each wrist, left and right. Soviet censorship modified the released printed pictures because they did want their soldiers to appear like thieves/trophy hunters...
