When I saw a series of pictures, there were far more pictures of passenger cars than tanks or other fighting vehicles. Should we assume that few fighting vehicles were sent into Austria at the time?

It was more of a political agreement than an invasion and military take-over.

A German Panzerdivision in 1939 could/should have these vehicles:
Personenwagen 561 cars
Lastkraftwagen 1402 trucks
gepanzerte Fahrzeuge 375 armoured cars, halftracks, tanks
Krafträder 1289 motorcycles
Beiwagen 711 side-cars for the motorcycles
The cars outnumber all the armoured vehicles by 186 units and then there are 1402 trucks which adds up to 1588 more non-armoured vehicles than armoured ones.
The tanks could make up less than half of the armoured vehicles.
In other terms: for every armoured vehicle on the road there would be almost 10 non-armoured, for every tank there could by 21 non-armoured vehicles.
Remember that this is the numbers for a regulation tank division. An infantry division would be even more non armoured.
Regulation infantry division early in the war:
Pferde 4842 horses
bespannte Fahrzeuge 919 horse drawn "vehicles"
Personenwagen 394 cars
Lastkraftwagen 615 (mit Zugmaschinen) trucks including "vehicles that pull things"
gepanzerte Fahrzeuge 3 (leichte Spähwagen ) light recce cars, armoured
Krafträder 527 motorcycles

Isn't the digital age wonderful? If the message doesn't stick the first time the repeat learning is only a few keyclicks away. Rinse and repeat .....

True to form, Tom Radigan once again time wasting on Armorama. More and more users will come to realise that there is no other intention in his posts than to get some sort of kick out of seeing how many will reply. No models will be built, no dioramas constructed, no information even remembered if this repeated question is anything to go by, just the "thrill" of seeing how many will bother to reply. Sad really.

The most significant post was made early on by Biggles2.
As said; This was not really a military conquering but a political arrangement made because most of the population was of German decent and favored becoming part of the Reich. Make no mistake about it, Austria had no choice in the matter but it was more a political/diplomatic victory rather than a military one.

I am reminded of the scene in the movie "The Pacifier" where the villainous teacher is outraged over finding a swastika armband in a student's locker. It turns out that student was involved in an after school production of "The Sound Of Music".
