I have the academy kit, not bad overall but it has no interior. That said I picked up the hobby fan turret some time ago and it's an outstandingly detailed turret complete with ammo drum, radar batteries and cabling for the lower and upper turret. I'm not sure if it's in production anymore although there may be some on eBay. Coupled with the Tamiya M113A2 it's probably as close as you'll get. Sans the turret guard and 1.5 Kw generator.

Not the Italeri Kit. I built that one several years back and had to end up scrounging layout info and parts for the top deck. It can look good, but needs extra effort.

If you can get Hobby Fan M163 upgrade, it is an amazing piece of resin... full interior and complete turret included. Well worth it.

Here's my take on it, I was building an IDF vehicle:

Of the plastic kits, the Academy has better detail and accuracy. Italeri's kit, based on their M113, has road wheels that are different from the US pattern, with much larger rim fasteners and a smaller stamped "donut" around the hub. I have seen wheels like this in photos taken in Europe, but they are probably manufactured by OTO Melara, which built the M113 under license in Italy. This is fine for Italian M113 vehicles, and perhaps some other NATO users, but OTO Melara never built the M163, so you'd need replacement wheels, to be accurate.

Hi guys,
thanks for the replies. So it will be Academy. I know Italeri M113 kits and be warned. Like Mario, I plan to build an IAF vehicle from 1982 Invasion. HobbyFan set is tempting, but too expensive. I will kit bash AFV Clubs IDF M113 with Academy M163 nd a set of turned barrels.
