Brilliant, but all too reminiscent of what's awaiting some urgent re-cataloguing in my attic; and with my wife working from home I have no idea of how to accomplish this with the necessary security measures now unavailable - ie she must not know!

My late wife always said she would rather I sit at the breakfast bar building a model, than sit in a bar hitting on one.

Believe it or not, but I am actually burning through my shelf queens!!
And adding a little something to my stash of unbuilt kits. Which soon should outnumber the S-queens.
Am I becoming normal now???

Yea...I got rid of almost 500 kits of old technology, over the last 4 years. But I still have a stash of about 150, new technology, kits. And I'm still adding to that 150. Now, I'm 66, retire for good at the end of 2020, and doing the math, I will not cheat mortality even if I build 5 a year. So, why do I keep adding to the stash when I know I can't build them all?? Inquiring minds want to know!

I need to build 100 models yearly the next 35 years.
Ain't gonna croak or kick the bucket before I turn 96.

Well, I guess that's what this whole china flu nonsense and subsequent unemployment will have to be blamed for.
Plus having a tight budget for years, preventing me from buying stuff.
At least I can say that I can build my entire stash AND shelf queens within a year or 2!!

In my previous comment, I forgot to add that all my kits presently in the stash, for the most part, will have been outfitted with all the aftermarket to that particular kit (vehicle), to date. That can be resin wheels, metal tracks, custom decals for a singular purpose or country, additional details parts no matter the medium, PE, brass antenna, etc. The reason...I found aftermarket items have about the same hobby shelf/production life as the kits. I swore I would never be left out of an aftermarket item if it was available. Can't count the times I saw a cool product to fit to a kit, and then being disappointed that it was out of production. The wife knows that she can't deal with a kit as sold, but has to take inventory of each kit to evaluate the goodies within, and price accordingly. In a nutshell, I created a monster that she will have to deal with one day. Poor girl!

Having models to build = life
Having no models to build = ?
I once knew a guy who would always buy a new model whenever he passed through the LHS. When it came to smuggling them into the house, he just left his garage door open about six inches— enough to pass a couple of kits through. His wife never went into that side of the garage.
I also knew a very old modeler whose son begged him not to buy any more models. When he passed, it took them a week to clear out the stash from two back bedrooms, all floor to ceiling and door to window stashed. The kits were trashed, from 60 years of collecting. But as the guys son told me, his Dad died with a smile on his face.
I don’t subscribe to any of this, preferring to be a bit more “well rounded”, but I do enjoy the hobby immensely, and have a pretty good stash to survive the “apocalypse” with. The problem will be paint, glue, and electricity. Maybe someone will invent a wood fired compressor and lighting?

When my friend passed away we had to go through his storage unit because his family didn't want to. Inside the unit was the inventory his hobby shop that failed. I was the only one who recognized what was in there so I took everything (he had gotten rid of the paints and glues) and filled one and a half bedrooms. I sorted, inventoried and help set up a garage sale to raise money for his funeral. The number of people who showed up surprised me. I didn't know that there were that many modelers in the area. We sold almost all the kits, made hundreds of dollars, donated those that were left. I saw modelers walking out of the building with arms full of kits and huge smiles on their faces.

Common point of modellers:
Very fast to buy a model. Much less to build it.
