I recently buildt a M1A1 1/72 using Revell and Dragon parts...

I used the Dragon kit vinyl tracks (... And then I experienced something new!
I painted the tracks with enamels... But the paint would not dry!!! - I cleaned the tracks and painted them again, with the same result! I the used some acrylic paint I normally use when I paint paintings... It dried, and then I could paint the tracks with enamels!

Has anyone experienced this phenomenon?

I've painted hundreds of vinyltracks with enamels... But I never experienced this!

Never experienced that. Maybe the temp and humidity could be the reasons. After a while, maybe a day or so, it'll dry soon.

did you clean them before you tried painting?

if somekind of mold release agent was still on there it would effect the paint.

I am not sure why they didn't dry, they must be a made of a different kind vinyl.

Can't be the humidity, as the enamel wouldn't have dried over the acrylics, and you said you had cleaned them, so there would have been no release agent.

And the acrylics dried ok on them......

shonen-red - I don't think it can be the humidity or the temp! When I airbrushed the tracks the first time, I actually let it "dry" for 3 or 4 days... And it didn't dry!

greatbrit - I didn't clean the tracks before the first paintjob - But I did clean it, after I cleaned off the not drying paint - With the same result!

I guess noone experienced this before...

I had a similar experience once.
I was doing a Horizon vinyl kit of Superman. As I usually do, I started with a primer coat, then applied my oil paints. Everything dried just fine except for the red oils used on his logo. It just refused to dry, even after a week or more. I stripped the logo and redid it several times with no change. Then, I tried adding an acrylic red undercoat on top of the primer and the red oil paint dried overnight.
I've since heard from others guys that oils and vinyl sometimes don't mix well. I'm guessing that it might be the composition of that particular batch of vinyl. But that's just a guess.

when i used to do a lot of model cars, i used to paint the tires flat black (w/ enamels) and they never tried, so thats my experience w/ paint not drying, but it could be the atmosphere the paint was in, and as someone asked, did you try washing the tracks first/? it usually gets all the 'yuckies' off first and is easier to paint, your best bet would be to drybrush it and use acrylics i guess. thats all i could say
