A little background on the real truck. The CCKW has two chassis types short (model 352 - 145 inches) and long (model 353 - 164 inches). Luckily for me I am told Tamiya represents model 353 so no cutting for me this time.

CCKW’s also have two transmission types - Timken and Banjo (also called Chevy or corporation). The Tamiya kit represents the Timken transmission. Hopefully later I can photograph both parts to show the difference. According to Doyle’s book, the water tanker version with the machine gun pedestal (same vehicle number - 16) had the Banjo transmission. Since at least to me it is difficult to tell in the photos and will assume the possible risk of being misidentified and labeled incorrectly. I will add the shapeways parts for the banjo. Depending on how you got the water tank parts use the Italeri kit banjo parts or do more research to probably find a Timken built water tanker.

In ALL photos of truck 16 in the Doyle book that allow the differentials to be seen, it's clear they're of Banjo/Corporation axles. And the Italeri kit doesn't have Banjo, but Timken axles - as do all other CCKW kits: Tamiya, Heller, Hobby Boss. So, it'll have to be Shapeways (unless you can find the OOP Banjo drive train by Masters Productions).

You can find a rear Banjo Axle in Tamiya's LRDG 30cwt Chevrolet Truck kit. Add the ribs by slicing thin strips of Evergreen tubing so that you have thin, curved strips, and add them like this:



I may cast one up if I do it again.

Thanks Peter, as not an expert on this issue I was going back and forth with photos to sort it out and leaving myself an out of there had been a mistake. I wasn’t aware that Italeri didn’t have the banjo, good information.

Ooooh that's an interesting bag of day-glo green plastic you got there Robert! Is that 1:48? My only worry is the collector-value of such ancient kits - it makes me hesitate with the knife and glue...

I tried adding time to the sprue, but Shapeways couldn't print it!

I don’t think I could afford the shapeways up charge on that option.
