Hi All,

Which would be the best, assuming I can get hold of the tamiya model, to build a 'Bus' from OIF ?. I see that academy list theirs as an LVTP-7 - looks the same though.

As always many thanks in advance.

Steve.

Hi Steve
Tamiya AAVP7A1 kit is the way to go for an OIF Amtrac as the version released by Academy is a LVTP7 which is AFAIK no more used by US Marines (the turret is different, as well as the headlights layout, amongst other differences). Avoid the Trumpeter/MiniHobby AAVP7 which is a bad and inaccurate copy of the Tamiya kit (unless you want to keep the EAAK parts and throw the rest in the dusbin as they are usable for the Tamiya kit - or at least you can use them as templates to scratchbuild yours) .I have recently bought the AEF Design EAAK set : it's still in its box : maybe I will use it as a starting point for my "AAVP7 + EAAK" project. Blast Models has released a resin set for the upgraded version (the one using Bradley running gear and tracks) but it lacks the new muffler.

Didn't the OIF AAVP's have the UGWS? with the reconfigured rear end?

From all the pictures I've seen, they all have the UGWS but what is the reconfigured rear end you are referring to? The suspension upgrade was on some but not all.

So if you have the old Tamiya kit without UGWS and you can find the MiniHobby kit with EAAK then you've solved 2 problems since the Minihobby will have the new turret and the bow plane as well.

Thanks everyone for your help. It is always a joy to post a topic on this forum as a) you are never treated as a complete idiot and b) you always get unbiased and friendly advice , unlike some forums I have seen where the above points are the reverse!!!.

Cheers all

Steve.

I have the AEF EAAK and the Hobby Fan version. The AEF is quite challenging to complete but both build an excellent model using the Tamiya AAVP7A1 w/ UGWS. The Blast running gear also makes an excellent addition to this kit. I would also recommend adding as much gear to the outside of the amtrac as you can possibly hang.
