Hi All,
I have got a difficult question. I want to build an TOPOL ICBM launch vehicle, there is no kit available. I want to scratchbuild it with parts from the Dragon Scud kit. Does anybody have any idea how I can find more info/pics of this vehile.? All I could find on the web are some blurry pics taken from some distance.
regards Matthijs

I was always interested in building some system, other than the SCUD, but never did because of the lack of info. There is almost no info on the web about the Topol, but here are 2 sites I found:
This site shows a cutaway of the rocket itself http://www.astronautix.com/lvfam/topol.htm
Some general pics of Topol-M http://legion.wplus.net/guide/army/rk/rs12m1.shtml
I will post more websites if I find any.
Hope you decide to do this project!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,
Thank a lot for the info. I will start on this model, even if it is the last thing I do in my life. My Dragon Scud is already a really impressive model, a Topol would be twice as big!! My next step in searching for info is via the chassis manufacturer, Zil. Something usefull might turn up.
Bye

My next step in searching for info is via the chassis manufacturer, Zil.
Well, the chassis manufacturer was not Zil but MAZ (Minskiy Avtomobilnyi Zavod : Minsk Automobiles Factory). The chassis models were the 7-axles MAZ-7917 for the RT-2PM/RS-12M Topol (SS-25) and the 8-axles MAZ-79221 for the RT-2PM2/RS-12M1 Topol-M (SS-27).
Today, the MAZ factory has been renamed MZKT (Minsky Zavod Koliosnih Tiagachei : Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant).
MAZ was also the builder of the MAZ-543LTM chassis for the 9P117 Elbrus (SS-1c Scud-B) sytem, thus the similarity between the different vehicles.

Gr8_Humpback, as far as I know, MAZ and MZKT are two different plants, MAZ makes the MAZ-543 and other commercial trucks, while MZKT makes those huge tractor chassis'
It is possible though that MZKT is a branch company of MAZ.
Mat, here you can find some more pics of the MZKT-79221, the chassis for the Topol-M

Hello Matthijs, I thought this would be interesting myself, but like you, the best I came up with is distant photos of the launch vehicle.
It seems backwards, you can find all the information clear down to building the missles, but barely a distant photo of the launch vehicle. The best pictures I came up with were on the FAS site, but still at a distance. I hope you have better luck then I did.
regards Kerry

Thanks again for your help,
I found only a few extra vage pics of the launcher itself, but I can't post them here on the forum. If anybody is interested, just send me an PM. I sent some e-mails to Russian people I found on the web. Since I did that, a black van with lot's of antennas has been parked in front of my house. I also get phone calls but nobody is at the other side of the line, mmmmm, strange
