What's the story for the ambush? Is this Vietnam?
Burning tanker looks good. Sometimes you see smoke on models and it looks weird. Yours looks good because it's not over done.
Dio's layout looks good too. You're undertaking a big project. Did the museum apporach you? The answer to my questions are in earlier forum posts aren't they? oh well.

First thanks Bros. The scene takes place in Vietnam. On Highway QL19 on Feb 1971. It depicts the ambush in which Sp4 Larry Dahl received the Congressional Medal of Honor for actions against the NVA while serving as a gunner on the Brutus gun truck. Most ambushs' lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes, but this one lasted for over an hour. It is suspected that the Nva forces were after the gun trucks and not the cargo from the convoy. There were bounties placed on the gun trucks and their crews and it is believed that the Brutus had the largest bounty of them all.
The Museum approached me to build this scene to be dedicated in the new wing of the Museum. I was honored fro being selected to build this project. Larry was a brother trucker and it allows me the opportunity to pay homage to him and all the brave gunners who protected us on the convoys.

Cool Dave - now I'm gettin' excited! Will you encase the display - or will they encased it at the Museum after delivery?

Howdy animal,
They couldn't have picked a better man for the job!
Your dio base is looking great! I don't doubt that it will be one helluva centerpiece for their museum display. I just really wish I could make the dedication ceremony when this all goes down!.....but alas
Thanks for sharing the pics of this mighty undertaking, you are a modeling maniac! #:-)
Tread.
Oh, I also second Major_Goose's query about how the heck you're going to transport this behemoth!?!

Thanks the Museum already have a glass case for it. I have to build it to fit. That's why I have the restriction on the size height. Only allowed 8 inches.
I will be transporting it to the Museum myself in the back of my van. I have about nine other models along with this Dio to deliver there.

So far I used 1/2 inch plywood for the base. The hills and roadway are made from newspaper covered with plaster cloth. All the dirt and shrubbery and grass is going to be made using Woodland Scenics products. and good old mother earth.
