After doing research for a long period of time , I finally made the roof and tiles for my very first house I scratchbuilt for my very first diorama. I would like to solicit comments and suggestions for improvements...

Roof Tiles

Attached to roof using tape

I am still in the process of painting other parts of the house including the roof, ceiling and floor

Wow I am impressed. The roof is very convincing. Are you sure that this is your first building? You have a natural gift for this type of modeling. Shoe us more.

Warthog,

I think that your tiles look rally, really good. I like the texture and the color, although variation in color (shades of orange/red) would be nice. I also see that there seems to be a slight problem with the way you laid the tiles out on the roof. I think that each row of tiles should slightly overlap the row in front of it (kind of like shingles in a modern house). If they don't overlap, there will be gaps and water will seep right through the roof. Other than that, I think this is an excellent piece of scratch-building.

Thanks....some of the initial pics can be found in my initial post
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/28670&page=1

Actually I was able to arrive to this because of the people who gave very helpful and informative tips in the post above.

I'm actually planning to document how I made the roof and post it here hoping to give other beginners like me another option on how to do it....

Marty: Thanks for the input, actually I overlapped the tiles as you mentioned. I admit some of them do not have very visible overlap coz during the process of construction I was very sleepy , I found out too late that the overlap was too small to be noticed.

I agree wih Marty -very well done. Color shape texture - Great.

Two little points the bottom row of tiles should overlap the faschia board (board running the length of the wall covering the face of the roof rafters). If you can move the tiles, maybe you can sand down the board a bit thinner.
The other thing is totally my opinion and take it as such - the bottom two thin strips that the tiles sit on are to long and or untouched as far as being broken.

This is turning out really well.

Wow Warthog, that roof is just as amazing as the building it sits on. Great work!! What did you end up using for the tiles? I cant wait to see this finished. What vehicles are you going to use with it? Cheers Kevin

My friend you asked for advice and ideas and then took that information and did a fantastic job. Well done!.

My only comments (nitpicking really LOL)

one the overlap over the front is missing (already mentioned) &

the long length of purlin on the back row (broken in two places. This is far too long to just hang there. It's own weight would pull it done.

The long purlin at the front is OK as long as it has a Square end as I have seen long lengths suspended like this with no support.

once again good work

Thanks guys for the comments. I even wrote down some of the questions and comments, and did my own research in order to find out what a "faschia board" is.... .

1) There is actually an overlap of tiles, aside from my flimsy excuse of being sleepy, it is also the picture...
2) The faschia board (after finding out what it really is..) is actually overlapped by the roof tiles. What you guys are refering to is actually a gutter w/c I just copied from one photo of an Italian country house built in the early 1930's (forgot the site) -- just not sure if I colored it right...The gutter is actually in front of the fascia board...
3) All broken beams/purlins are not yet final....I even plan to break one or two rafters and trusses...
4) The paint I used is pre-mixed terra cotta colored acrylic
5) As for the roof, I just used corrugated board.

Gotcha! I see the gutter now. I know if I saw it in person I wouldn' t have made that mistake of thinking the fashia board was to thick.
Now that I see it from different angles it does look different - and good.

Well done

Guys,

Thank you for the kind comments you gave....I'll be updating the pics as soon as I fully complete the dio and BTW, I'm going to use a DML Panther as the vehicle with some FJRs around it....

I already finished the document on how I did the roof, but I don't know how to submit it...

Below are some photos of how I plan to build my dio using the house...maybe some could add more ideas...

Please pardon the pics coz they are a bit blurry (shaky hands) and the lego blocks will not be part of the final dio :-)

The good diorama is getting better! One nitty pick, the strands should be shorter. They don't look realistic to me. I'll try and get the screenshot I've mentioned to you so you can check it out.

BTW... I want to see the Lego bricks as part of the diorama :-) :-) :-) :-)

Shonen: I'm going to get flak for this, but I just snipped the straw strands from a broom I found lying around (I placed it there for photo session and I plan to really pust straw based on your suggestion..Band of Brothers)...I'll take not of your comment regarding the lenght...BTW, what lenght do you suggest for the straw...

As for the Lego my daughter already noticed it and asked me to return it...sorry can't include it...tough luck :-) :-) :-)

Be careful with that broom. Adding a jhobus (to color it) stinks like heaven! Ask GI, he used a broom then add some coloring to it. The result? Stinks like hell!!!

I'll try and get that screenshot now. (Wish my player has a screen capture setting)

Here you go mate:

Shots from Band of Brothers ep 4 "Replacements"

The Tiger at rest

I don't bloody believe it!!

Ok, the strands should be atleast half as tall as your figures.
